Microsoft Insecurities
Microsoft for a few weeks now has had a page on its website called “PC vs. Mac” giving some pretty generic reasons as to why Windows users should not go to the “dark side” – Earlier today I had a discussion with a long time friend and we have came to the same conclusion: Microsoft has some insecurities regarding its platform. They have ~90% of the PC market share and yet they are bothering to make such a page which shows that they see Apple as a threat, but that is not the point. Microsoft with its large market share is taking this the wrong way. I think it is safe to say that the vast majority of active Macintosh users are on Intel chips by now. This being the case Microsoft should target the existing Mac users instead of its already enormous user base.
Apple has made it clear that Mac can run Windows. Therefore, Microsoft should focus its effort on getting those Mac users that do have an Intel chip to install Windows in bootcamp. Not only could they make more money by selling their disks directly to the users instead of wasting the investors money on advertising third party manufacturers, but it also could patch up some of its insecurities by gaining a larger portion of the PC market share.
